Week11 Sarah Modoh: Origination_06.10.2010 ~

Origination: Sarah Modoh

R001 - JOHN MAEDA!!!

1. What does Maeda call the 3 keys?
- Away:
more appears less by moving it far away
- Open: openness simplifies complexity
- Power: use less, gain more

R002 - The Keys (from john maedas book)

2. Describe how you have used these in your work towards UPHERE? Give at least one example of each key.

Away - For example I had to edit heaps of images for my jeans brochure, all these photos appeared less when i layed them all out on the one A3 piece of paper and had them printed. Those 10 or so images are now just the one.

Open-
In my work I've used "open" to present the whole of my artwork. For example setting up all my artwork for the final day for the exhibition, i've used open to make all the complex and hard work to seem less and presentable.

Power - Ive used this to gain controll of mixed emotions in the class room. For example I've used power to controll myself from speeking my mind so much and just using it to get focused on what i need to do like completing my blogs or tasks.
3. Describe an incident in the production of UPHERE where technology has been an enabler…. and another where it has been a disabler!
Enabler: It allows us to communicate to each other, to complete our artwork to access information within seconds.
Disabler: When we think we can only do these things through technology. There a fast ways to do things such as email a person, then there are slow ways to do things such as actually see that person you emailed in person. Technology is great but it isn't always right way to go.
4. At this stage in the exhibition process you are all working on some element or
process for the big event. List 3 things (in your current project) that you could
take away to simplify and one thing you could add for meaning.

3 Things to simplify the website;
- doing it on iweb
- not having so much content
- not having restricted colour theme.

1 thing add for meaning;
- If everyone contributed there share of content before a due date that'd be great. But I should mention this to everyone instead of writing it in my blog.

Something I'd like to share. I think as I mentioned some of the things I want to do to simplify the production of the website by using iWeb, would be inappropriate because I think that iWeb is restricted to its creativity where as dreamweaver you can create any CSS or HTML design you desire but it can be a pain sometimes (most times).
             I mention  not having so much content  is just absurd because there are so many talented students with so much art to show, but I agree we don't have enough time to see everyone that's showcasing there art in the exhibition therefore we shan't have as much content as I'd like.
            Third point, not having a restricted colour theme. I think the colours that we have chosen for the exhibition which in fact are the same colours as last years colours, are disgusting. But that's my Opinion. I wish we all just stopped being so indecisive and picked some new trendy colours for our exhibition but since we are restricted that'd fine challenge accepted.

R003 - This is a video about Dreamweaver CS5 vs Adobe Flash CS5. This guy just mentions the top 5 features he likes from each program. I'm not sure or have the slightest clue how to use flash, but I'd like to expand my knowledge and skill about it because theres surely more than one program to create websites.
